    MOFCOM to prohibit steel and aluminum product tolling in an attempt to control exports

    China will prohibit tolling businesses from re-exporting steel and aluminum products from January 21 next year in an attempt to control exports of low value added products, the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) announced today.



    According to the announcement, the country will ban tolling businesses from importing upstream raw material and re-exporting low value added steel products, including hot-rolled steel plate, hot-rolled wire and bar, steel pipes and hot-rolled stainless steel plates.



    The re-export of aluminum profile and aluminum alloy wire by tolling businesses will also come into effect on Jan. 21 next year.



    A total of 589 products will be subject to the ban, according to MOFCOM. Other products include chemical products, feather products, shoes, jewelry and glasses.
