China's Guangxi Yinhai Aluminium has seen its smelting capacity drop by
50% since late September following the government's move to limit power supply
to conserve energy and reduce emissions from high energy-consuming sectors, a
    company source said Thursday.
"We started cutting back before the holidays and now capacity at both our
smelters in Guangxi have been reduced by 50%. We're not certain when they can
resume normal production," the source said.
The company has a 200,000 mt/year primary aluminium smelter in Baise and
another 250,000 mt/year smelter in Laibin.
The Laibin smelter started operations mid-2009, lifting the company's
total aluminium capacity to 450,000 mt/year.
"We had earlier aimed to produce 450,000-470,000 mt this year, but now we
may only reach about 370,000-380,000 mt," the source said.
The company produced 330,000 mt of aluminium in 2009.
