Current situation of China¡¯s aluminum industry and existing problems

In 2009, there were about 95 countries and regions producing aluminum profile, and manufacturers more than 2200, among which China’s production accounted for over 50% of global total production, ranking top.

China’s aluminum profile production grew from 1,719,000 tons in 2001 to 7,290,000 tons in 2009. CAGR was 19.8%. In 2009, China’s production of  construction aluminum profile and industrial aluminum profile were respectively 4,960,000 tons and 2,330,000 tons. In 2010, China’s aluminum profile productivity will exceed 10 million tons, among which aluminum consumption is expected to reach 600 million tons, but in 2012 expected to reach 14.4 million tons.

Talking about applications, construction industry is still the major filed, and consumption goes upward year by year, but with the non-stop improvement of Chinese industrial level and scale, industrial profile consumption will also increase year after year.

Currently China’s aluminum alloy extrusions industry has crossed primary phase charactering quantity.  In the next years, Chinese industrial aluminum consumptions ratio in total aluminum consumption will grow year by year. Its ratio will be up to 45-50% from present 30% and will be the leader in the market gradually.

But it cant be neglected that the risk behind the industry. Labor cost is rising, and enterprise competitiveness declined; production capacity increased without order, and supply exceeds demand. The whole industrial profit is little. A company’s independent R&D ability is weak, and products types lack systematization. At present, the number of domestic aluminum alloy manufacturers has decreased to more than 600 from peak period over 1200. A large number of small enterprises have been eliminated. Industrial reorganization and integration in the future will be the main trend.
