    Nonferrous Metals Industry in the first half of 2010

    (National MIIT) Affected by pressure from energy-saving and carbon-emission reduction, the growth of raw material has rebounded quickly. In the first half year, the added value of raw material rose by 16.1% YoY, with a recovery of 9.2%, but 3.2% lower than the first quarter. In June, it grew 11.1%,which was 3.5% lower than the prior month. Taken the same period in 2008 as a basis, the average growth rate in the first half of recent two years is 11.4%, while in June it was 11%.


     Metallurgical Industry


    In the first half year, the added value of metallurgical industry increased 18.9% YoY, with an increase of 16.2% YoY, but 1.8% lower than the first quarter. The output of crude steel reached 320 million tons, with an increase of 21.1%. The daily average production was up to 1,790,000 tonnes, with an increase of 2% compared with the prior quarter.
      
    Nonferrous Metals Industry


    In the first half year, the added value of nonferrous metals rose 18.6% YoY, with an increase of 11.7% YoY, but 5.1% lower than the first quarter. The production of ten kinds of nonferrous metals reached 15,290,000 tonnes, with an increase of 31.3%, but the growth speed was 4.7% lower than the first quarter. The production of electrolytic copper and electrolytic aluminium were respectively 2,320,000 tonnes and 8,190,000 tonnes, with an increase of 19.4% and 45.6% YoY. The output of alumina was 14,690,000 tonnes, with an increase of 44.3%.

    Imports of major nonferrous metals rebounded


    In the first half year, the imports of unwrought copper and copper profile reached 2,230,000 tonnes, with a decrease of 0.2% YoY. In June, the imports reached 328,000 tonnes, with a decline of 17.3%. The imports of unwrought aluminum and aluminium profile was 520,000 tonnes, decreased 62.6% YoY. The imports of alumina was 2,350,000 tonnes, with a decline of 12.3% YoY.
