    Commerce starts aluminum extrusion dumping probe vs. China

    An anti-dumping and countervailing duty petition filed against Chinese exporters of aluminum extrusions took two steps forward this week, with the U.S. Commerce Department announcing plans to launch an investigation into the allegations and the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) hearing testimony on the issue.


    The petition, filed in late March by the United Steelworkers union and a coalition of domestic extruders, received its first go-ahead from Commerce on Wednesday, when the department agreed to investigate whether China has been selling extrusions into the United States at less than fair value.


    But while Commerce said it would move forward with an investigation into the dumping allegations, it said it will wait to rule on what role that possible Chinese currency manipulation plays in the issue.
