The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology Planning Division Director He Xiaowen released in an industry conference in Kunming that the Chinalco's Liancheng Aluminium Co., Ltd. will soon reach a direct power purchase agreement with the generating station.

If approvalled by the National Development and Reform Committee,  Liancheng Aluminium Co., Ltd. will be counted as the second company among the 15 quotas that subjected to the direct power purchase. In the earlier time, Chinalco's Fushun Aluminium Co., Ltd. had passed the verification.

The direct purchase of electricity plan for large enterprises has been launched in the first half of this year aimed at easing up the tariff burden on aluminum smelting companies.

He Xiaowen also said the electric power changes for Fushun Aluminium Co., Ltd. may be reduced to 0.40 yuan per unit, which will be served as a sample for the other companies.

Aluminum is a high-energy-consuming product. Smelting process takes a lot of electricity, which accounted for 42% of production costs.

He Xiaowen indicted the plan can't be put into practice until relationship between the power grids, power plants and smelters has been re-arranged. However, he did not mention the deadline for the agreement.
