It's not a problem that's been widely reported in Michigan, but potentially defective Chinese drywall is causing major concerns down south.
The Associated Press reports the drywall suspected of causing corrosion and possible health risks may exist in 100,000 U.S. homes.
Homeowners claim the Chinese drywall is causing problems with corroding metals, foul odors and respiratory ailments. Many of the complaints have come from southern states, where a warm, humid climate encourages the emission of the fumes.
Hundreds of lawsuits are piling up in state and federal courts. Congress and the Consumer Product Safety Commission are investigating. The commission is also making sure that no more Chinese drywall comes into the country.
