Shanghai extends Friday's fall on metal stocks

Chinese shares tumbled Monday, extending their sharp fall from Friday, as investors sold off metal stocks on concerns over rising inventories. The Shanghai Composite Index lost 1.7% to 2,912.17, and the Shenzhen Composite Index fell 1.9% to 1,010.17 in morning trading, with Aluminum Corp. of China Ltd. /quotes/comstock/28c!e:601600 (CN:601600 13.72, -0.46, -3.24%) down 3.5%, Jiangxi Copper Co. /quotes/comstock/28c!e:600362 (CN:600362 38.00, -1.08, -2.76%) shedding 3.4%, and Angang Steel Co. /quotes/comstock/28b!e:000898 (CN:000898 12.57, -1.03, -7.57%) tumbling 9%. The performance also weighed on Hong Kong-listed Chinese shares, with the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index down 0.1%, although the benchmark Hang Seng Index rose 0.2% to 21,675.01.
