Shanxi Branch of Chinalco is developed from the Shanxi Aluminium, under the national guidance of "giving priority to the development of aluminum", the company experiences key construction in several five-year plan.
From the preparation of 1972 to the end of “Tenth-Five-year", the company experienced four phases. The first phase: from 1972 to 1983, preparations for construction. The second phase: from 1983 to 1994, phase one and two of the project were completed, the company formed a alumina production capacity of 1.2 million tons; the third phase: from 1995 to 2000, the company focused on the strengthening of the basic management and committed to carry out technology reform in order to achieve production targets. The fifth phase: from the establishment of Aluminum Company of China in 2001, the Shanxi Branch entered into a stage of rapid development. Till 2003, it enlarged the alumina project by 0.8 million tons.
Now, the company has a annual alumina production capacity of 2.2million ton, which makes it one of the country's biggest aluminum industry bases
