China's average daily power output in the first ten days of June declined only 0.2 percent from a year earlier, compared with a 3.5 percent fall in May, Caijing magazine said on Monday.
Guangdong's power output rose 11 percent, snapping falls in previous months. Output in Zhejiang, Shanghai and other coastal regions fell at a slower rate, the magazine said, quoting data from the State Grid. But provinces heavy with energy-intensive industries had not seen a significant improvement in power generation. Inner Mongolia's power output fell 6.4 percent, Shanxi's output declined 2.8 percent, and Gansu saw a 12.6 percent fall, the reports said.
"With increasing steel and aluminium output, the decline of the country's power generation will continue to slow. Power output is likely to return to positive territory in the second half of the year," the report quoted an unnamed source from China Electricity Council as saying.
National electricity production in May fell for the seventh straight month, down 2.7 percent on year, official data showed last week.
