Copper steadied on Monday, held back by worries about oversupply in China, the world's top copper consumer, but with an equities rally offering some support.

Copper for three-months delivery on the London Metal Exchange was $4,450.25 a tonne at 1358 GMT, from $4,450 on Friday.

A higher open on Wall Street helped turn European equities positive, also briefly lifting copper out of the red, but miners like Xstrata ( XSRAF.PK - news - people ) and Rio Tinto held to losses.
