Aluminum Corp. of China (ACH), or Chalco, said Thursday it has resumed 4%-5% of its alumina output capacity on a gradual recovery of demand for aluminum.
Zhang Qing, manager of investor relations at the world's third largest alumina producer, told Dow Jones Newswires she sees prices of alumina and aluminum rising this year, as demand for aluminum has gradually been picking up after the fourth quarter.
Alumina is the key raw material used to produce aluminum.
Chalco said in January it had idled 4.11 million metric tons or 38% of its total annual alumina production capacity and 720,000 tons of its aluminum production capacity.
The company raised its spot alumina price twice this year to the current CNY2,300/ton.
