    China stock index up 1 pct, led by coal shares

    China's main stock index rose for a fouth day in a row on Thursday, gaining 1 percent in active turnover with coal shares taking the lead.


    The Shanghai Composite Index .SSEC ended the morning at 2,245.478 points, near its intraday high of 2,248.853.


    Gaining Shanghai A shares outnumbered losers by 741 to 161, while turnover in Shanghai A shares was active at 58.5 billion yuan ($8.6 billion), although this was down from 67.2 billion yuan on Wednesday morning.


    Coal shares were strong, with China Shenhua Energy (601088.SS: Quote, Profile, Research) advancing 3.04 percent to 20.35 yuan.


    Shares of several Shanghai-based firms surged after local media reported that the Shanghai government plans to aid some leading area companies. Property firm Lujiazui Finance & Trade Zone Development Co (600663.SS: Quote, Profile, Research) jumped its 10 percent daily limit to 22.23 yuan.
