The Chinese metals industry has lashed out at what it describes as "protectionist" policies by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) on imports of aluminum extrusions.
The China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association (CNMIA) has written to the Canadian ambassador in Beijing to "protest in the strongest possible way" the recent determination by the CBSA placing anti-dumping duties on extruded aluminum products from China. The CBSA ruled earlier this month that the huge majority of extrusions from Chinese exporters were being dumped by a weighted average margin of 72.6 percent, following an investigation covering the period from July 1, 2007, to June 30, 2008 (AMM, March 9).
In a March 10 letter to Robert Wright, Canada's ambassador to China, the CNMIA queried the reasoning behind the CBSA's decision and warned that it could damage Canadian-Chinese relations.
