    Hang Seng Index up 0.59% on Thu

    Hong Kong stocks rose on Friday, with the benchmark Hang Seng Index slightly increasing 70.87 points or 0.59% to close at 12,001.53.


    Mainboard turnover rose to HK$28.532 billion. 


    The Hang Seng China Enterprise Index, which tracks the overall performance of 43 Chinese mainland state-owned enterprises on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, edged down 45.26 points or 0.65% to 6,962.48 points.


    Market heavyweight HSBC Holdings Plc<5><HBC>, which accounts for the largest weighting for the Hang Seng Index, climbed 1.66% to HK$36.20.


    Property stocks ended mixed on Thursday. SOHO China Ltd<410> slightly rose 1.11% to HK$2.73. Sun Hung Kai Properties<16> fell 0.50% to HK$58.90. Cheung Kong (Holdings) Ltd<1> swelled 1.26% to HK$59.85.  


    Hutchison Whampoa Ltd<13> tumbled 0.40% to HK$36.85. Hopson Development Holdings Ltd<754> rose 0.62% to HK$3.22.


    Chinese auto stocks led the downward trend today. Denway Motors Ltd<203> plunged 5.92% to HK$2.54. Great Wall Motor Co Ltd< 2333> fell 6.15% to HK$2.44.


    Sinotruk (Hong Kong) Ltd<3808><000951> ended flat at HK$5.00. BYD Company Ltd<1211> fell 1.88% to HK$14.54. China Motor Bus Company Ltd<26> slid 0.52% to HK$38.20.


    Airline stocks were the gainers in today's trading session. Air China Ltd<601111><753> fell 2.29% to HK$2.13. China Eastern Airlines Co Ltd<600115><670><CEA> went down 0.97% to HK$1.02. China Southern Airlines Ltd<600029><1055><ZNH> edged down 2.43% to HK$1.20.


    Xinjiang Xinxin Mining Industry Co., Ltd<3833> fell 6.46% to HK$1.88, dragged by the continuous falling prices of nonferrous metals.


    Jiangxi Copper Company Ltd<600362><358> dropped 1.15% to HK$6.00.


    Top insurer China Life Insurance<601628><2628><LFC> gained 1.82% to HK$22.60, while smaller rival Ping An Insurance<601318><2318> surged 2.51% to HK$40.75.


    PICC Property & Casualty Co Ltd<2328> climbed 0.51% to HK$3.93 and China Insurance International Holdings Co<966> fell 0.32% to HK$9.13.
