It is reported that in January China exported 17,646 tonnes of unwrought aluminum far below the 77,422 tonnes in December and the average level of 70,108 tonnes last year, hitting the lowest point in the past 7 years.
According to the statistics available, in October 2001, the aluminum export was over 30,000 tonnes, since then the export per month was all over 30,000 tonnes until Dec last year when the volume dropped to below 30,000. In November last year the export volume dropped to 30.395 tonnes.
Mr Wang Feihong with Antaike said the weakening global demand, narrowing price gap between SHME and LME and the Spring Festival are believed to be the factors that dragged down the aluminum export. Meanwhile, the 290,000 tonnes of electrolytic aluminum purchases by National Materials Reserve Administration in January has pushed up the aluminum price to some extent, while that of international aluminum price has dropped sharply during the same period of time.
