Interfax China reported that Qingtongxia Aluminium Group Company Limited will put its newly built aluminum smelting facility with an annual output capacity of 270,000 tonnes into operation on December 26th 2008

The official said that "Construction was recently completed on the new 270,000 tonnes facility in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, which is just the first phase of our expansion project. By the time the final fourth phase is complete, the project's total output capacity will hit 1.08 million tonnes per annum."

Qingtongxia Aluminium's current aluminum smelting capacity stands at 680,000 tonnes per annum. Moreover, the official said that the company's aluminum facilities are now operating at normal levels, though it is making a loss of roughly CNY 2,000 for each ton produced at current spot prices.

He said that "We only have between 120,000 and 130,000 tonnes of aluminum smelting capacity on hold at the moment, in order to conduct our maintenance as is normal in November and December."
