    China COSCO to invest in Kaohsiung Port

    China Knowledge reported that China COSCO Holdings Company Limited has teamed up with port authorities of Kaohsiung in an effort to help expand the Kaohsiung port in southern Taiwan.


    Mr Wei Jiafu chairman of the Board and CEO with the company said that China COSCO is very confident about its participation in the expansion of the port.


    The source said that the mainland company is also considering naming one of the eight 13,500 TEU container vessels under construction Kaohsiung and use it exclusively for cross strait shipping after its delivery in 2010.


    The 10,000 TEU COSCO Oceania arrived at Kaohsiung Port on last Wednesday after it departed from the mainland port of Tianjin last on Monday becoming the first mainland ship to visit the island via direct cross strait shipping links since 1949.
