Global IP solutions provider Global Crossing has announced that Minera Chinalco Peru has acquired an extensive portfolio of technology and telecommunications solutions for the development of its copper megaproject Toromocho.
Minera Chinalco Peru is a subsidiary of the Aluminum Corporation of China (Chinalco), a multinational polymetallic mining company. Minera is developing important copper production projects worldwide, with an estimated total investment of US $2.2 billion.
Yvan Garcia, IT manager of the mining company explained that recognizing the magnitude of the project, they searched for a strategic partnersh that could provide them with the necessary expertise and skills to implement a technological integration between the mining camp in Lima and Chinalco's headquarters in Beijing.
Global Crossing (News - Alert) has deployed a number of services in Minera Chinalco Peru such as data transmission, Internet, international connections, collaboration, managed security and telephony services in Lima.
According to Dante Passalacqua, Global Crossing's Sales and Services vice-president, Peru, this announcement indicates the complete service portfolio that Global Crossing can offer to multinational companies. The agreement also validates their strong position as a carrier and technology provider in the mining sector.
Passalacqua added that because all the services of the mining company operate from their data center in Lima, they assure information availability and operations continuity in the company.
Earlier this month, Global Crossing announced the addition of the Session Initiation Protocol (News - Alert) (SIP) Refer feature to its Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services portfolio. With this feature, enterprises and IP-based application service providers can better utilize their IP networks. In addition, this feature also allows the transfer of incoming calls to the location or party best able to serve the caller’s needs.
