SAN FRANCISCO -- Asian benchmarks were broadly higher in morning trade Thursday, shrugging off concerns about the previous session's sharp decline in Shanghai shares and taking a cue from Wall Street, where the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 closed at new record highs.
In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 opened higher and added 243.25 points, or 1.38%, to 17831.51. The broader Topix index was 0.89% higher at 1749.14.
