China Nonferrous Metal Industry Association official attended the fourth Shanghai Derivatives Market Forum and said that the output of China’s primary aluminum was expected to reach 15.5 million tons in 2010.
Strong demand of aluminum and higher price will continue to encourage the expansion of production capacity. In the first quarter 2007, China has invested 3.53 billion yuan on the smelting project.
The demand on aluminum involved in transportation, electricity, construction, telecommunications and electronic components continues to grow.
China Nonferrous Metal Industry Association Lang Dazhan expects that in the next few months 2007 the alumina price will maintain no less than 3,000 yuan( 392.27 US dollars), and the electrolytic aluminum price will keep higher than 18,500 yuan per ton.
China Nonferrous Metal Industry Association believes that the high energy consumption and heavy pollution aluminum smelter will gradually be eliminated. However, the large scale aluminum smelting plants will continue to carry on the capacity expansion.
He said that the output of primary aluminum will reach 12 million tons in 2007, an increase of 28.34% from last year.
