Aluminum Corp of China (Chinalco) said its stake in Rio Tinto, which had been held by bankrupt investment bank Lehman Brothers, has been transferred to another custodian.
'The entire shareholding, which was held under a custodian agreement with Lehman Brothers (nyse: LEH - news - people ) International Europe, has been transferred to a new custodian acting on behalf of Chinalco,' the company said in statement.
According to some reports last month the Rio Tinto stake had been frozen by Lehman Brothers liquidators after the collapse of the Wall Street bank.
Chinalco and Alcoa Inc (nyse: AA - news - people ) jointly bought about 9 pct of Rio Tinto in February for 14 bln usd in a surprise move that was widely seen as an attempt to thwart a takeover of Rio Tinto by its larger rival BHP Billiton
