Bottled water accounts for more than 10% of the global drinking water market every year.

But bottled water is an energy-intensive product. It takes three bottles of water and a quarter of a bottle of oil to produce one bottle of plastic-packaged drinking water, and the production of one ton of PET will produce about three tons of carbon dioxide. Behind the convenience provided by bottled water is a large amount of plastic that is discarded after one-time use, and it is the huge energy loss and environmental pollution brought about in the long supply chain from water source to final consumption and post-processing.

For this reason, the development of low-carbon, environmentally friendly and plastic-reducing packaging has become an important topic for many brands. From September 2019, the 58-year-old Sprite has changed from its iconic green bottle to a clear plastic bottle that is easier to recycle. Soon after, as part of Coca-Cola's "New World without Waste" initiative, the classic PET Coke bottle, which has been selling for many years, launched a "non-falling" bottle cap design to achieve the same amount of beverage packaging recycling and reuse.

The recyclable green design and recycling of PET bottles, as well as the rising label-free design in various places in recent years, all reflect the industry's unremitting efforts to explore sustainable packaging.

In addition to various plastic reduction efforts, are there opportunities for paper bottles, metal cans or other low-carbon packaging to reach the market? In 2021, the Coca-Cola Greek bottling company will cooperate with Graphic Packaging to use the new QuikFlex cardboard technology to replace its plastic bottle packaging; Anheuser-Busch InBev will launch a 440ml "ultra-low-carbon" aluminum can in the UK, with a carbon footprint of only that of ordinary aluminum cans Source:
