    The World Bureau of Metal Statistics (WBMS) released the metal balance report for January-September 2022 on November 16. The report shows that from January to September 2022, primary aluminum, copper, lead, and tin will be in short supply, while nickel and zinc will be in surplus.

    During the period from January to September 2022, the global primary aluminum market will have a supply shortage of 822,000 tons, and in 2021, there will be a supply shortage of 1.6 million tons.

    In the first nine months of this year, the global demand for primary aluminum was 51.84 million tons, a decrease of 30,000 tons compared with the same period last year.

    From January to September 2022, global primary aluminum production will drop by 332,000 tons. Production declines in Europe were more or less offset by increases in China and the rest of Asia.

    Total reportable inventories at the end of September were 635,000 tonnes below the level at the end of December 2021.

    As of the end of September, the LME's total inventory was 651,000 tons, and by the end of 2021 it was 1,213,400 tons. Inventories on the Shanghai Futures Exchange fell in September, but as of the end of September, inventories were 149,000 tons lower than at the end of 2021.

    Overall, from January to September 2022, global primary aluminum production will decrease by 332,000 tons year-on-year. China's output is estimated at 29.88 million tons, up 2.5% year-on-year.
