No assurances concerning Aluminium tariffs on Brazil: Donald Trump

The American president Donald Trump applauded the US relationship with Brazil in the reign of Jair Bolsonaro, President of Brazil.

Though there were no assurances from President Trump concerning the aluminium tariffs on the South American country.

The President of the two nations meets for a dinner at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. Ahead of the dinner, Trump was asked if he would continue to hold off placing new tariffs on Brazilian aluminium, he replied: “the United States had helped Brazil, but would not make any promises regarding tariffs”.

The two biggest economies of the Western Hemisphere had been entangled in a trade spat over USA’s metal tariffs. President Bolsonaro communicated “President Trump had told him there would be no new U.S. tariffs on Brazilian steel and aluminium.”

Trump said of Bolsonaro: "Brazil loves him and the USA loves him. The friendship is probably stronger now than it's ever been."

The two leaders, who share a similar brand of conservative, populist politics, last met roughly a year ago at the White House.

A senior U.S. administration official communicated earlier on 7th March’20: “the two leaders were expected to discuss the crisis in Venezuela, economic ties and the possibility of a U.S.-Brazil trade agreement. Forest conservation was also on the topic list for the meeting.”
