    Africa’s primary aluminium production dropped 2.86% YoY in January

    Africa produced 136,000 tonnes of primary aluminium in January 2020, a decrease of 2.86 per cent from 140,000 tonnes in January 2019.

    The output reduced by 2.16 per cent from December 2019’s production of 139,000 tonnes but increased 2.26 per cent from November 2019’s production of 133,000 tonnes, according to the latest data showed by the International Aluminium Institute (IAI).

    IAI reported that primary aluminium production in Africa came in at 1.643 million tonnes in 2019 as compared to 1.668 million tonnes in 2018. That was down 1.5 per cent year-on-year.

    Global primary aluminium production stood at 5.451 million tonnes in January 2020, an increase of 0.57% from 5.420 million tonnes in January 2019. The output inched up by 0.22% month-on-month. In 2019, primary aluminium came in at 63.697 million tonnes, slightly down by 0.99%% from 64.336 million tonnes in 2018.
