On 22nd February’20, China’s metal association said “A European Union probe into whether China is dumping aluminium extrusions is a result of “internal” factors at the companies that complained and Chinese producers should not have to bear the consequences”.
The extruded aluminium is enormously used in transport, construction and electronics. China is undoubtedly the world’s largest producer of aluminium and its extrusions had already been encountered by anti-dumping duties in the USA, Canada, Australia and Vietnam.
The China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association said: “China’s aluminium extrusion products have not caused damage to the EU’s relevant industries and there is no dumping in Europe.” The association also stressed that Chinese firms benefited from advanced technology and cost controls.
Expressing firm opposition to the case, The Association also said: “If the need arises, it would recommend that the Chinese government adopt countermeasures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of exporters.”
On 14th February’20, the European Commission made public that it had opened the dumping investigation post complaint filed by Industry Group European Aluminium, which is represented by seven producers.
Wen Xianjun, Vice Chairman of the Association and also an independent non-executive director at China’s top Aluminium extruder, China Zhongwang Holding Ltd., communicated that he would organize Chinese companies to actively respond to the complaint.
