Guinea Alumina Corporation (GAC) has a mining concession of 690 km2, in the region of Boké, a city located in the northwest of Guinea, exactly in the locality of Tinguilinta.

To meet the standards of the International Labor Organization and those of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the subsidiary of the company Emirates Global Aluminum relies on skills from the communities affected by the project.

Martin Simard, Director of Communication, GAC communicated that 4650 workers were employed at the time of construction work in 2018. He also added 85% were Guineans and 67% are from the locality of Boke.

GAC uses a 135 km railway line with the Guinea Bauxite Company (CBG). GAC's first ore export took place in August 2019, after major construction work.

From bauxite extraction to maritime transport, GAC has modern generation machines. Currently, it has two locomotives of 498 wagons that can transport 85 tonnes of ore each. That makes 160 thousand tonnes every four days. Also, two crushers transform the ore blocks into aggregates which are then reduced to acceptable dimensions for transport to Wagons.

The head of biodiversity and compliance, Mamadou Samba Barry said: “At the government level, there is an annual certificate of compliance which is done through audits and inspections. You also have our donors who make regular visits to the site, to see the actions that are carried out in the field. Our goal is to avoid sensitive places. If you can't avoid it, you minimize the damage. What we are also doing is rehabilitating the area and ecological restoration in concert with the communities.”

In addition to compliance with environmental standards, GAC translates its major concern to preserve nature by setting up a section which deals with biodiversity.

According to the Director of the mine, Moussa Mara, GAC has shipped more than one million tonnes of bauxite ore since the start of exports in August 2019. It continues to climb to reach its nominal capacity of 12 million tonnes per year.
