On Wednesday, January 8, the Jordan Chemicals Company, fully owned by the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC), and Alufluoride Limited of India signed an agreement to set up an aluminium fluoride factory in Jordan.

As per the deal signed, the first phase of the project includes building the factory, worth $25 million, in Al Shidiyeh region in Maan, and also the modernisation of the JMC’s aluminium fluoride plant in Aqaba for producing aluminium fluoride at the same cost.

The JPMC will reportedly supply 20,000 tonnes of fluosilic acid annually to the new factory. Fluosilic acid is a secondary product of phosphate extraction in the Shidiyeh mines.

Commenting on the agreement, JPMC Chairman Muhammad Thneibat said it was important as part of the company’s efforts to move towards conversion industries and diversification of the company’s income sources.

Construction of the new factory in Al Shidiyeh, scheduled to start at the beginning of next month and continue for 15 months, is expected to provide nearly 100 new job opportunities for residents, said Muhammad Thneibat.

He also said the production after the renovation of the aluminium fluoride factory in Aqaba is expected to reach 20,000 tonnes in each plant in the first and second stages.

The company will reportedly sign a series of agreements this year as part of diversifying its partnerships and enhancing production and economic capabilities.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alufluoride Limited of India Venkat Narayanan expressed his pride in undergoing partnership with JPMC in various fields, adding the new plant constitutes a "qualitative addition" to the company and contributes to strengthening relations and cooperation between the two sides.
