The United States Geological Survey revealed the US aluminium scrap imports in September came in at 47,600 tonnes, up 5.07 per cent from August August. However, in July and August, the country’s aluminium scrap imports declined month-on-month. The United States scrap import volume in June was 54,200 tonnes, which in July inched down by 4.24 per cent to 51,900 tonnes. The amount of import further dropped to 45,300 tonnes in August, recording a decline of 13 per cent.

Until September, the United States aluminium scrap imports totalled at 458,000 tonnes, compared with 532,000 tonnes during January-September 2018. This marks a year-on-year decrease of 14 per cent in the United States total aluminium scrap imports from January to September 2019.

In September 2018, the United States had imported 54,400 tonnes, representing the fact that the country’s import in September 2019 slipped by 12.49 per cent year-on-year.

Canada was the primary exporter of aluminium scrap to the US in September, providing 32,300 tonnes. In the month earlier, Canada had supplied 31,000 tonnes, meaning the US aluminium scrap import volume from Canada rose month-on-month by 4.19 per cent in September 2019.
