Greece is the third-largest destination for Turkey’s bauxite exports after the United States and China. With the year-on-year growth in Turkey’s total bauxite exports, the country’s exports to Greece have also been found growing over the years. According to the international trade, Turkey’s bauxite exports to Greece in 2019 is likely to come in at 143,378 tonnes, after recording a rise of 16 per cent from 123,427 tonnes in 2018. In 2017, the export amount by Turkey was 85,020 tonnes, which indicates the fact that the country in 2018 had witnessed a significant year-on-year growth of 45 per cent in its bauxite exports to Greece.

Along with the growth in the export volume, Turkey’s earnings from bauxite exports to Greece have also been growing, and 2019 is expected to be of no exception. From US$3.58 million in 2018, Turkey’s export revenue is likely to grow to US$4.71 million, up 32 per cent. In 2017, Turkey had yielded revenue of US$2.45 million from its bauxite exports to Greece, meaning the exports in 2018 grew by 46 per cent year on year.

Turkey’s total bauxite exports in 2019 are expected to come in at 1.72 million tonnes, compared with 1.14 million tonnes last year.

Turkey’s overall bauxite market is blooming. Bauxite supply from China may be down, but several new bauxite producers are emerging to take its place and one of them is Turkey. Turkey-based Demireller Mining, the leading bauxite producer exporter company in Turkey, holds around 10 million tonnes of bauxite from 15 deposits, and last year produced 500,000 tonnes of various bauxite grades, including grades for abrasives, calcium aluminate cement (CAC), Portland cement, and slag conditioning.
