    Taiwan’s imports of aluminium scrap from the US climbs 37% from July and 6% from June in August

    Taiwan’s imports of aluminium scrap from the US climbed by 36.74% from July and 6.45% from June in August. Taiwan imported 4,950 tonnes of scrap in August, from 3,620 tonnes and 4,650 tonnes imported in July and June.  Imports were down by 8.67% from 5,420 tonnes in May, but up 15.12% from 4,300 tonnes in April.

    Taiwan imported 43,500 tonnes of aluminium scrap from the US in the first eight months of 2019, as updated by the US Census Bureau.

    Taiwan's imports of total aluminium including scrap from the US stood at 5,460 tonnes in August 2019, an increase of 26.98% from 4,300 tonnes in July. Imports rose by 3.61% from June’s imports of 5270 tonnes, but down 7.46% from May’s imports of 5,900 tonnes and 0.91% from April’s imports of 5,510 tonnes. Aluminium imports from the US in January-August amounted to 48,800 tonnes.

    Imports of crude metal and alloys and semi-finished products (plates, sheets, bars, etc.) from the US in August stood at 182 tonnes and 331 tonnes. Taiwan imported 1,480 tonnes of crude metal and alloys and 3,890 tonnes of semi-finished products in the first eight months of this year.

    On the export side, Taiwan exported 5,950 tonnes of total aluminium including scrap to the US in August, from 3,390 tonnes exported in July. Exports increased by 75.52% month-on-month. Aluminium exports increased by 63.01% from June and 8.18% from May. Total exports in the first eight months of 2019 stood at 46,000 tonnes.
