Aluminium Stewardship Initiative has certified multiple Amcor flexible packaging facilities against ASI Performance Standard.

Amcor achieved ASI Performance Standard – Material Stewardship Certifications for its two facilities in France and one in Germany – that produce flexible packaging. Amcor Flexible’s Rorschach site in Switzerland has achieved complete ASI Performance Standard Certification. The company’s operations in Singen, Germany are already certified against the ASI Performance Standard and Chain of Custody Standard.

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative announced that Amcor’s facilities in Teningen Tscheulin-Rothal (Germany), Sarrebourg and De Froges (France) have been certified for responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium with a focus on material stewardship. These facilities produce a broad range of flexible packaging products, including liddings and foils and offers processes like lacquering and printing, embossing and die-cutting. The products are used in both food and non-food applications. Amcor’s Rorschach site in Switzerland covers semi-fabrication, material conversion and lacquering.

The ASI Certification program is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The independent, third-party audit of the Amcor facilities was carried out by DNV GL.

Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said “We sincerely congratulate Amcor on their latest ASI Certifications for these four additional flexible packaging facilities, following on previous Performance Standard and CoC Standard certifications of their Singen facility. The company’s continuing efforts to certify their operations underscores the importance of responsible production practices in this part of the aluminium value chain and for the packaging sector more broadly.”

Dr Isabelle Jenny, Manager Sustainability for Amcor Flexibles, said “Receiving this certification further recognises Amcor’s commitment to responsible sourcing practices and selection of aluminium raw materials that minimise environmental impact.”

Dr. Björn Denda, System & OHSE Manager of Amcor Teningen, added “With our sustainability-focused approach to procuring raw materials and processing them into more sustainable packaging solutions, we are responding to the needs of our society as a whole, and the needs of our customers.

“Amcor Froges also has a long history, specialised in aluminium foil for processed cheese packaging. ASI certification is a key enabler to further improve our products from an environmental and social perspective,” he added.
