    Primary aluminium production in North America and South America off by 3% and 1% MoM In September

    North America’s primary aluminium production totalled 310,000 tonnes in September, unchanged from September 2018 production. Aluminium output decreased 3.43% from 321,000 tonnes in August and 3.73% from 322,000 tonnes in July.

    Primary aluminium production in the first nine months of 2019 stood 1.93% higher than the same period last year. Total output was 2.858 million tonnes, compared to 2.804 million tonnes, according to the latest data showed by the International Aluminium Institute (IAI).

    Aluminium production in North America came in at 3.774 million tonnes in 2018, IAI data showed.

    South America’s primary aluminium production amounted to 94,000 tonnes in September compared to 89,000 tonnes in the corresponding period the previous year. That was up 5.62% year-on-year.  The output dropped 1.05% from August, but up 1.08% from July.

    In January-September, primary aluminium production declined 11.57% year-on-year to 787,000 tonnes. The output was 890,000 tonnes in January-September.

    South America’s full-year primary aluminium production for 2018 stood at 1.164 million tonnes, IAI data showed.
