Saudi Arabia increases aluminium exports to the US in June 2019; exports up by 144% YoY

Saudi Arabia’s exports of total aluminium (crude metal and alloys and semi-finished products) to the US stood at 34,600 tonnes in the first six months of 2019, an increase of 3.38% from 33,470 tonnes in the first six months of 2018, according to the latest Mineral Industry Survey report from US Geological Survey.
In June, aluminium exports stood 143.52% higher compared with the same period of 2018. Exports to the US increased from 3,203 tonnes to 7,800 tonnes in June 2019. Exports climbed by 38.79% from May’s export volume of 5,620 tonnes.
Crude metals and alloys export to the US registered 11,900 tonnes in the first half of 2019. That was down 54.75% from last year’s total volume of 26,300 tonnes. In June, exports decreased by 30.59% year-on-year. Exports to the US stood at 1,770 tonnes as compared to 2,550 tonnes in June 2018. On a month-on-month comparison, crude metals and alloys export rose 85.73% from 953 tonnes.
Exports of aluminium semi-finished products (plates, sheets, bars, etc.) from Saudi Arabia to the US stood at 22,700 tonnes in January-June 2019, 216.6% or 15,530 tonnes higher than the corresponding period of 2018. Exports in June came in at 6,030 tonnes, a jump of 823.43% from 653 tonnes in June 2018. On a month-on-month comparison, exports increased 29.12% from 4,670 tonnes.
On the import side, Saudi Arabia’s imports of aluminium including scrap from the US stood at 2,370 tonnes in January-June 2019, from 1,020 tonnes in January-June 2018. Imports of aluminium scrap stood at 2,010 tonnes as compared to 134 tonnes in the first half of 2018.
