Turkey¡¯s worldwide aluminium plates, sheets and strips export to increase in 2019, but likely to drop to the UK

Globally, automotive aluminium rolled product market is growing, driving the demand for aluminium plates, sheets and strips. According to a report, aluminium flat rolled products market size is expected to exhibit US$129,100 million by 2024, at a CAGR of 6.8 per cent. To cash on this growing business sector, Turkey, over the past few years, has been found increasing its export of aluminium plates, sheets and strips.

According to the global export-import data, Turkey in 2016 exported 138,117 tonnes globally, which in 2017 increased to 175,447 tonnes, up 27 wthper cent, and in 2018 216,545 tonnes, up 23.42 per cent year-on-year. This year, the rise is estimated to continue to 248,742 tonnes, recording a sweeping growth of almost 100 per cent.

The United Kingdom, which is the second-highest importer of aluminium plates, sheet and strips from Turkey after the United States, is, however, likely to secure a lesser amount this year compared to the year ago. In 2018, Turkey’s aluminium plates, sheets and strips export to the UK was 24,724 tonnes, which in this year is estimated to fall to 24,136 tonnes, down 2.37 per cent. But till the last year, Turkey’s aluminium flat rolled products export to the UK grew year-on-year, in tandem with the rise in country’s total export amount. In 2016, Turkey’s export to the UK was at 18,454 tonnes, while that in 2017 and 2018 at 22,762 tonnes and 24,724 tonnes respectively.

Now, coming to the export value, Turkey is expected to generate around US$626 million this year, compared to US$526 million in 2018. In 2016 and 2017, the revenue valued at US$247 million and US$359 million. This indicates that the country’s export value of aluminium plates, sheets and strips is rising over the years, as a consequence of the growth in total export amount.

Turkey’s export value from the UK has also been rising until this year, as it is expected to dip from US$57 million in 2018 to US$56 million in 2019. In 2016 and 2017, the values were at US$35 million and US$50 million, respectively.
