Turkey¡¯s aluminium bar rods and profiles exports to Germany to remain flat in 2019 but exports to Iraq likely to grow

The increasing use of aluminium extrusions in building and construction sector has been generating considerable demand for aluminium bar, rods and profiles across the world. The aerospace industry is also contributing fairly to the rising demand for aluminium profiles. According to the forecast in 2014, the expansion of the global aluminium profile, bar and rod industry is likely to reach 9.7 per cent per annum in the years to come.

To cash on this positive market sentiment in the aluminium bar, rods and profiles industry, Turkey has been increasing the volume of its exports to the various parts of the world. In 2018, the country’s estimated aluminium, bar, rods and profiles exports were at 181,772 tonnes, which in 2019 is expected to rise to 196,170 tonnes, up 8 per cent. But despite the expected rise in Turkey’s total exports volume in 2019, its shipment to Germany, the leading export destination of Turkey’s aluminium profiles, is likely to remain flat at 43,278 tonnes, as compared to 43,265 tonnes. In 2016 and 2017, Turkey exported 24,102 tonnes and 40,794 tonnes of aluminium bar, rods and profiles, which indicates that the country's exports to Germany increased year-on-year until 2018.

However, Iraq, another important export destination of Turkey’s profiles, is expected to secure 19,465 tonnes in 2017, up 5.6 per cent from 18,442 tonnes in 2018. In 2016 and 2017, Turkey sent 11,917 tonnes and 18,140 tonnes to Iraq, which represents a growing exports volume of aluminium bar rods and profiles from Turkey to Iraq.
