Alcoa has achieved three Aluminium Stewardship Initiative Certifications to the ASI Performance Standard, for the Juruti bauxite mining and Alumar alumina refining operations in Brazil, and for the San Ciprián aluminium smelting operations in Spain. Alcoa is the first US-based company to achieve ASI Certification.

Alcoa President and Chief Executive Officer Roy Harvey said: “We are honoured that ASI has certified these three locations and recognized our sustainable approach, which drives how we operate our facilities, manufacture our products, and interact with our communities.”

“We consistently work to produce bauxite, alumina and aluminium in a responsible manner, and achieving ASI Certification is an important differentiator for our Company as a recognized leader in sustainability.”

The ASI Certification program is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process. The independent, third-party audits of the three Alcoa-operated locations were carried out by DNV GL.

Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said: “Sincere congratulations to Alcoa for their successful achievement of Certification against the comprehensive ASI Performance Standard at three separate sites in Brazil and Spain. Alcoa is also the first US-based company to achieve ASI Certification. As a company that has been central to the aluminium industry since its inception in 1888, Alcoa play a valued leadership role in the sector. We appreciate Alcoa’s strong commitment to sustainability and look forward to their continued engagement with the ASI program.”
