Aluminium China and Lightweight Asia, from July 10-12 in Shanghai, will showcase a new chapter in the aluminium industry by exploring the green manufacturing trends involved in the developments and products in the automotive, construction, transport, aerospace and consumer durables industries.

Aluminium Leading the Boom in Consumer Electronics with White Goods

In recent years, using aluminium alloy by-products for parts in home appliances instead of their plastic counterparts has become increasingly widespread in order to meet more modern consumer preferences and aesthetic requirements. As a result, the number of aluminium products sold throughout the domestic consumer electronics market is expected to continue to rise, driven by this demand.

At this year’s Aluminium China, one of the forums, Appearance and Application of Aluminium Alloy in Consumer Electronics, aims to further promote its use in the market by sharing insights into the possibilities for its future development. Topics will include appearance, design and processing and technologies. The speakers will come from enterprises including Meiling, CVTE and Xivo Design.

Aluminium Assisting Sustainable Development in Packaging

The strong demand for green, low carbon and sustainable development is also adding to an increased demand for aluminium packaging. Compared to traditional materials like plastic, using the aluminium can reduce pollution while ensuring food safety at the same time.

However, the industry still faces some challenges such as initial costs, so efficient production, enterprise management and the use of quality material are still needed for its sustainable development. The International Aluminium Institute, Aluminium Stewardship Initiative and the Global Aluminium Foil Roller Initiative will address these issues at one of the forums whose key message is ‘The future protects with aluminium.’

    Lightweight Automobiles Are Key

The use of lightweight aluminium vehicles can effectively combine energy savings with emission reductions by adopting new materials for use in their production. Common lightweight materials are divided into metal and non-metal categories. The metal materials mainly include high strength steel, magnesium and aluminium alloys, whereas the non-metals include engineering plastics and composite materials.

    lightweight automobile

This year’s Asia Automobile Lightweight Trade Fair will include a forum on the Innovative Application of Automotive Lightweight Technology and Related Materials as well as the International Forum on Innovative Application of New Energy Vehicles and Composites to explore this.

With the growth of lightweight vehicles, the amount of aluminium used per vehicle in China has gradually increased, especially in those for passenger transport. According to statistics from the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, in 2010 the average consumption of aluminium alloys for passenger vehicles in China was 99kg per car. Thanks to technological advancements, the promotion of policies and the development of new energy vehicles, this rose to 142 kg per car in 2017 and 156kg per car last year.

The Automotive Lightweight Processing Technologies and Relevant Materials Innovative Application Forum will look at technological development and feature talks from OEMs and auto part suppliers from around the world to discuss topics including joining and moulding and the use of the relevant metals like steel, aluminium and magnesium in automobiles.

In co-operation with cnfr.com, the organiser will launch the International Forum on Innovative Applications of New Energy Vehicles and Composites at Lightweight Asia, spotlighting technological advances in the area, such as the role of new high-performance composite materials in new energy vehicles.

Aluminium China 2019 and Lightweight Asia 2019, organised by Reed Exhibitions, will run from 10 to 12 July in Shanghai.
