China alumina smelters to cut output

China alumina smelters are planning to cut some of the high cost alumina plants as the price falling below cost line.

This will result in cut of bauxite import in China.

Alumina output of China accounts for one fourth of the world, while one third of the bauxite needed is imported, mainly from Indonesia and Australian.

Shandong Lubei Enterprise Group said that it was closing an alumina smelter of 1 million tons annual output as the market has been unstable.

The second largest alumina producer, Shandong Weiqiao Aluminium said that the company had closed the alumina facility of 4 million annual output.
