    Top five aluminium exporters to the U.S. during the first 3 months of 2019

    The U.S. total imports of aluminium for consumption during the first 3 months of 2019 stood at 1.44 million tonnes, 20% less than 1.81 million tonnes in the same period in 2018, according to the latest Mineral Industry Survey report from US Geological Survey. The U.S. imported 509,000 tonnes of aluminium (crude metals and alloys, plate, sheets, bars, etc., and scrap) in March 2019. This indicates a drop of 31% year-on-year.

    Canada continued to be the leading source of imported aluminium materials, supplying 38% of all aluminium imports during the first 3 months of 2019, followed by the United Arab Emirates (10%), Australia (6%), India (5%), and Bahrain (4%).

    Canada exported 543,000 tonnes of crude metals and alloys, aluminium semi-finished products, and scrap to the U.S. during January-March 2019. Exports decreased by 27.79% compared with those in the same period in 2018.

    UAE stood second with the export of 146,000 tonnes of total aluminium. This was down from 176,000 tonnes in the same period previous year. Australia comes at a third position with the export of 84,200 tonnes of aluminium. The country had exported 19,300 tonnes to the U.S.in the same period last year.

    India and Bahrain exported 68,400 tonnes and 52,400 tonnes of aluminium to the U.S. during the first 3 months of 2019.  Exports from India and Bahrain increased by 10% and 20% compared with those in the same period in 2018.
