    Chalco may cut production in response to falling aluminium prices

    On 10 October 2008, Chalco announced that it may have to cut back production at some of its higher cost aluminium facilities due to the recent slump in aluminium prices. However, the company expects to compensate for this by running its lower-cost falicilities at full capacity, while reducing maintenance and repair shutdowns. The company relterated its output target of 3.5 mn tons of primary aluminium for FY 2008. Spot LME aluminium prices have declined from a 52-week high of US$3,271.25 per ton on 11 July 2008 to a 52-week low of US$2,158.50 per ton on 10 October 2008. Source: Research Oracle
