The global metal can demand is projected to reach 431,573.9 million by 2020, growing at a CAGR of 2.9 per cent from 2014 to 2020. With a large number of aluminium can manufacturers stepping up their product differentiation and innovation pursuits the demand for the aluminium cans is expected to rise further in the medium to long term.

But here while taking a look at Germany’s estimated aluminium can export in 2019 through our available third-party data, we find that the country will likely export a lesser volume. In contrast to the estimated 76,826 tonnes in the year last, Germany’s aluminium can export is projected to stand at 62,025 tonnes by the end of this year, down 19 per cent. In 2017, the export volume was forecast at 76,525 tonnes, marginally down from 2018, but up 23 per cent from 2019.

Germany’s revenue from aluminium can export is also likely to decline in 2019, in tandem with the fall of export volume. The country this year is estimated to yield around US$262 million, down 28 per cent from the approximate value of US$369 million in 2018. In 2017, the country’s estimated revenue was at US$343 million, on the other hand, as can be seen in the graph below. Thus, the graph depicts that Germany’s estimated revenue from aluminium can export stood up in 2018 year-on-year, but will be down in 2019.

According to the available data, France is expected to be the leading importer of aluminium cans from Germany this year, by securing 13,184 tonnes valued at US$53 million. The Netherlands and the UK are estimated to be the second and third leading importers, purchasing 12,629 tonnes valued at US$35 million and 8,539 tonnes valued at US$26 million, respectively.
