    Estimated aluminium wire import by South Africa to witness a drop in 2018

    South Africa, the 33rd largest importer in the world, is estimated to import less aluminium wire this year. The top aluminium wire exporter to South Africa is Mozambique.  Mozambique exported an estimated 26210 tonnes of aluminium wire in 2017. The country imports major chunk of this product from Malaysia, Oman and India.

    As per global export-import data, South Africa’s aluminium wire imports reached an estimated total of 35355 tonnes in 2016. In 2017, the volume increased noticeably to stand at 45894 tonnes. In 2018, the estimated aluminium wire import is expected to reach 42507 tonnes.

    The total aluminium wire import was valued at US$75 million in 2016, which increased to reach US$110 million in 2017. In 2018, the value of imports of this product is also expected to decline in 2018. Aluminium wire imports are to be valued at US$96 million (estimated).
