According to introduction, average electric consumption of electrolytic aluminium in China is 14500-15000 kwh/ton, and average electric price is 0.36-0.40 yuan/kwh. Therefore, increase of 5 fen per kwh is an increase of more than 700 yuan per ton in production cost.

The high aluminium price and cancel of preferential policy on electric price greatly lift production cost of electrolytic aluminium; and even worse, impact the profit of this industry in the long run, particularly for those non-Chalco electrolytic aluminium plants who rely on spot supply of international alumina.

China aluminium industry faces a new start though the country has strengthened its efforts in controlling. It is predicted that China would again become a net importer of aluminium around 2010 after years of expansion. However, further release of production capability shrinks the possibility to slow down electrolytic aluminium output in 2008.
