The Government of Odisha is intensifying efforts to build an inclusive environment for ancillary and aluminium downstream units in the state. Following the success of the last month’s meet organized in collaboration with Tata Steel and Jindal Stainless (JSL) in Kalinganagar, the state government is now organizing a workshop for the aluminium industry in the same line.

The event to be held on October 16, in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), is expected to witness a turnaround of about 100 ancillary and downstream aluminium companies.

Investments in Odisha aluminium downstream sector are gaining momentum. Over the past five years, the state has attracted investments worth INR 893 crore, including:

Midal Cables’s proposal to build an aluminium rod and wire conductor unit at INR358.90 crore with an annual capacity of 60,000 tonnes per annum
India PGCIL subsidiary Grid Conductors’ proposal of establishing an aluminium and aluminium alloy conductor unit at INR 127.35 crore
Gupta Power Infrastructure’s proposal to set up a facility for high-tension cables at INR 192.07 crore
Deepak Cables (India)’s proposal to put up an integrated aluminium downstream project for INR 155 crore beyond the aluminium park

The Aluminium Park in Odisha is the first of its kind project in the country where molten aluminium would be sourced directly to feed the downstream units at the park. It is strategically located near Nalco's smelter at Angul and also in close proximity to the ports and markets.

"The chief executive officers of Vedanta, Hindalco and Nalco are going to attend the event. We have invited downstream and ancillary companies who will take up on-site visit of the aluminium park being developed at Angul", an Odisha government official said.
