Average spot alumina prices in China rally through August; stand at RMB 3044/t on Sept 7

Spot alumina prices in China are on an upward track and now continue to grow firm throughout all the major markets. According to Shanghai Metals Market Statistics, the average spot alumina price started rising from mid-August when it was hovering around RMB 2521/tonne and reached the highest level at RMB 2859/tonne on August 31.

Average Alumina Price for August and September

Average alumina price for the month of August was RMB 2604.17/tonne. Average price of alumina in the first week of September stands at RMB 2972.60/tonne. On September 7, Thursday, the average price stands at RMB 3044/tonne.

Alumina prices from large scale alumina enterprises too saw some rise in August.  On September 7, Thursday Chalco alumina prices stand at RMB 3110/tonne and are expected to move within a range of RMB 3,090- 3,130/t.

In the import market; average imported alumina price started rising at the end of August and currently stands at RMB 2,990/tonne today.

Currently, among the domestic markets, East China market has the highest alumina price at RMB3050/tonne.

As for other raw materials are concerned, Average prebaked anode prices in East China market have experienced a slight rise in August to RMB 3995/tonne and jumped instantly to RMB 4415/tonne in the first week of September. The price rise was driven by a tight supply of calcined coke in china market caused by environmental crackdown. Average price for last one month  stands at RMB 4053.75/tonne. 

Prebaked anode prices in Central China, Southwest China and Northwest China remain unchanged for a month.
