China’s alumina production surges in July

China’s production of alumina increased notably in July. The production rose less than expected due to maintenance conducted by producers. The alumina production is expected to grow further in August, according to recent statistics showed by Shanghai Metals Market.
China produced 5.77 million tonnes of alumina in July, up 14.4 per cent year-on-year. The daily average production stood at 186,000 tonnes, down 1.3 per cent month-on-month, SMM statistics indicated.
In June, the country produced 5.66 million tonnes of alumina, up 16.4 per cent year-on-year, and the daily average production was 189,000 tonnes, up 3.0% month-on-month.
Guizhou Huajin Aluminum, Henan Zhongmei Aluminum, Chalco Group Shanxi Jiaokou Xinghua Science & Technology, Yunnan Aluminum Wenshan Alumina and Shanxi Xiaoyi Tianyuan Chemical were conducted maintenance in July.
Shandong Weiqiao Aluminum & Electricity is still under maintenance. The other alumina producers have resumed production.
China is expected to produce 5.81 million tonnes of alumina in August, with the daily average production at 188,000 tonnes, SMM expects.
