Production of secondary aluminium alloy ingots in Italy is of global significance. The European nation excelling in metallurgy and engineering has been producing a major chunk of the entire Western Europe’s aluminium demand mainly created by the automotive manufacturing companies clustered in this region. Aluminium alloy ingots produced from unwrought aluminium as well as from various aluminium scrap commodities in Italy find huge demand in the international market. Export-import data shows aluminium alloy ingot export from Italy has risen by 7.5% from 2015 till 2017 (estimated).

Italy exported 231525.5 tonnes of aluminium alloy ingots (primary + remelted) in 2015, which grew by 4.2% year-over-year to reach 241438 tonnes last year. In 2017, the country is estimated to export a total volume of 249082 tonnes aluminium alloy ingot, up 3.2% YoY.

Revenue generated from aluminium alloy ingot exports in Italy has declined significantly over the last three years, reveals international trade data. The country exported US$504.3 million worth aluminium alloy ingots in 2015, which came down to US$451.6 million in 2016. In 2017, the value of exports is estimated to further drop to US$445 million. Depreciation of US dollar against Euro and declining prices of secondary aluminium alloy ingots in the international market were primarily responsible for the falling revenues.

Quarterly export-import data shows Italy’s estimated aluminium alloy ingot export in the first quarter of FY 2017-2018 stood at 62202 tonnes. In second quarter the volume is estimated to drop marginally to stand at 62192 tonnes, valued at US$110 million.

Some of the major aluminium alloy producers of Italy are Sepal S.p.a, Eural Gnutti SPA, Al.Go, Metalli Pressofusi SRL, Alumec SRL, GEAL S.p.a, TMS SRL Aluminium, Italferro S.p.a, and Intermetal SRL. They have been shipping extensively to countries like Austria, USA, France, Germany, Greece, Romania, and Croatia. Owing to the increased lightweight automotive manufacturing demand in Europe, USA and China, these manufacturers are set witness a further surge in their aluminium alloy exports through 2025.
