    China records rise in export of aluminium in Q4 2016-17

    China, the world’s fastest growing and second largest economy, plays a dominant role in in the global aluminium market. The nation accounts for about a half of global aluminium consumption, and is forecasted to boost this share to 59 per cent by 2025.

    According to an SMM report, China’s aluminium output rose 21.6 per cent year-on-year to 3.17 million tonnes in May. The production will continue to grow on a yearly basis in June.

    The country produced 15.21 million tonnes of aluminium during the first five months in 2017. As of June 1, aluminium stocks in domestic five major markets totalled 1.19 million tonnes, up 766,000 tonnes from a year ago.

    According to the recent estimate, China exported an estimated 135446 tonnes of aluminium in the first quarter of 2016-2017. In the second quarter, the country exported 130379tonnes, a fall of 5068 tonnes of aluminium. The country again witnessed a fall in the export of aluminium in the third quarter. In third quarter, the estimated aluminium export stood at 125457 tonnes and in quarter four, the amount stood at about 140023 tonnes.

    The total export revenue stood at USD 259.20 million in the first quarter of 2016-2017. In second quarter, the export value stood at USD 256.82 million. In third and fourth quarter, the revenue stood at about USD 224.64 million and USD million 272.72 respectively.

    In 2016, China exported an estimated 38449 tonnes of aluminium to Thailand followed by South Korea 19018 tonnes and Taiwan 15822 tonnes
